  • You must be an international student studying in Canada with a valid Canadian study permit.
  • You should be entering UBC from an accredited secondary school or transferring from your first year at another college or university.
  • You must have graduated from high school no earlier than one year before the academic year you are applying for. For instance, if you are applying for the 2025 Winter session, you should have graduated no earlier than November 2023.
  • You must be applying for your first undergraduate degree.
  • You need to show excellent academic performance, typically achieving all A grades or an equivalent standard.
  • You must demonstrate financial need that would make it difficult for you to pursue a degree at UBC. UBC automatically considers all international students for merit-based scholarships like the International Major Entrance Scholarships and Outstanding International Student Awards. If these do not fully cover your tuition and living expenses, you can apply for the International Scholars Program.
  • You must meet UBC’s admission standards, including general requirements, degree-specific requirements, and the English Language Admission Standard.

Benefits of the UBC International Scholars Program

The UBC International Scholars Program provides support for tuition, fees, and living expenses, after considering the financial contribution that you and your family can make each year.

Duration of Scholarship: The scholarship can be renewed for up to three more years of undergraduate study or until you complete your degree, whichever comes first. To keep the scholarship, you must maintain good academic standing in your program, continue to show financial need, and keep your Canadian study permit (visa) active.
