Eligible students will automatically receive this scholarship upon enrollment, and it will be applied directly to their tuition fees.

The University of Ottawa Undergraduate Scholarship program is among the most generous in Canada. It recognizes not only your academic achievements before university but also your performance during each term of full-time study at the university. This new scholarship will provide African students studying in English with access to various pilot programs across three faculties at a significantly lower tuition cost.

Excellence scholarships are awarded through a competitive selection process for top candidates with an admission average of 90% or higher. To be considered, students must apply for admission by March 1, 2024, and have their applications processed by April 15, 2024.

Preference will be given to candidates whose first choice is the University of Ottawa. Recipients are required to begin their programs in September. To promote diversity, each faculty will aim to award an equal number of scholarships.

University of Ottawa Entrance Scholarship Requirements

All eligible students will be considered for the University of Ottawa Entrance and Excellence Scholarships and will be informed at the time of their admission.

No application is needed for this scholarship, but recipients must provide proof of citizenship from an African country or territory before they receive their first payment.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be an international student with a valid study permit.
  • Hold citizenship from one of the following: an African country, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, or Vietnam.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student.
  • For the Entrance Scholarship: have an admission average of 89.99% or lower, as converted to the university’s grading scale.
  • For the Excellence Scholarship: have an admission average of at least 90%, as converted to the university’s grading scale.
  • Be newly admitted to one of the following undergraduate programs offered in English or with a French immersion option:
    • Engineering: Civil Engineering; Chemical Engineering.
    • Social Sciences: Sociology; Anthropology; International Development and Globalization; Conflict Studies; Public Administration.
    • Sciences: All programs except the Honours BSc in Biochemistry/BASc in Chemical Engineering; Honours BSc in Physics/BASc in Electrical Engineering; and Honours BSc in Ophthalmic Medical Technology.

University of Ottawa Undergraduate Scholarship Duration and Reward

The Entrance and Excellence Scholarships offer new students a four-year award of up to $100,000 to help cover some of their university tuition costs. All amounts are in Canadian dollars. These scholarships can be renewed for a maximum of 12 terms.
